NYFW Spring ’15: Model Jae Yoo Reveals Memorable Runway Moments

Jae Yoo

is here! Everyone in the fashion world is currently in New York City for all of the amazing runway shows. This is an especially big week for , walking in a runway show at fashion week is a huge opportunity.

We were lucky enough to talk to one of the most in-demand models in the business, , about this exciting week! From runway to editorial, Jae can do it all. This guy is a star! Check out what Jae had to say about the modeling world and read about his most memorable runway moments in the interview below!

Celebuzz: It’s Fashion Week — what are you most looking forward to seeing or who are you most looking forward to meeting?

Jae Yoo: For me, I’m looking forward to seeing all of my friends, the agents, the casting directors, just about everyone because it’s the time of the year when everyone’s in town. We get to meet each other everywhere we go like say the casting or the show or the fitting. It’s a very good way to reunite with all of the people in the industry.

CB: What are some pre-show rituals that you can share with us?

JY: For the pre-show I take time to give a prayer for giving me the opportunity to work and represent. Also I interact with different people, like say a makeup artist or the hair dressers or even say dressers to see how they feel about the fashion industry and see what their lives are like outside of fashion.

CB: That’s nice that you guys can talk and relax before the show.

JY: That’s the best way to just spend the time and chill out and relax before the show.

CB: Who are some of your biggest fashion role models?

JY: For me, the role model or most inspiring person in fashion would be Jason Kanner, who is my agent, because he’s so down to earth and he’s been in the business forever. He’s very professional and he’s also a father figure. We’ve actually sat down for dinner a few times and he guides me in and outside of modeling. So I really look up to him, how he networks and how he treats other people, with respect. I think that’s one of the reasons why I respect him as a person. You know he’s like a boss, he can boss people around, but he’s always been very professional.

CB: What do you think about when you’re walking down the runway?

JY: Most of the time the music I think does dictate what type of mood I’m in before the show. Like if it’s a loud house or really loud club hip hop music my blood gets going. If it’s an orchestra or classical music it kind of calms me down. But when I’m on the runway my mind actually goes blank as soon as I step out and cut the corner onto the runway. I just forget about everything that I wanted to see or do. Sometimes other models talk about how they see celebrities sitting in the front row or how they interact or do some sort of pose, but I just get so caught in the moment I just forget to do something that I wanted to do.

CB: What did you have for breakfast this morning?

JY: For breakfast I try to have something say like yogurt or drink milk or a bowl of cereal. Most of the time when we get to the show they have food ready anyway.

CB: You’ve walked in many amazing runway shows, is there one that you would say is your most memorable?

JY: There’s so many! They’re all memorable. But I must say Tommy Hilfiger or Calvin Klein because that’s one of the shows I debuted at three years ago. During Calvin Klein one of my best friends who’s also a photographer came over and I remember him telling me, “This is your time, you’re the first Asian boy to walk this show.” That kind of made me even more nervous. But at the end of the day it was such a great show. I also remember Givenchy for being an absolutely club-like environment, they had this base going off the roof. It was one of the most memorable sounds.

CB: Is there a company you dream about modeling for that you haven’t worked with yet?

JY: I wish to work with everyone if I could. But I’d rather keep it a secret.

CB: What’s your favorite thing to do when you have a day off from modeling?

JY: Most of the time I just stay home. I don’t have to be stuck at home but you know go for a run, go workout or hang with friends or have a date with my girlfriend. Most of the time when I don’t know my schedule it’s hard to arrange to meet up with someone or even schedule time in my day because there’s lots of last minute casting, last minute travels. So if I know that there is a day off I like to spend it with my friends, my family, and my girlfriend.
