PLANT CITY – Supermodel Niki Taylor visited City Hall to deliver a $1,000 check from Reader’s Digest and to recognize Little League pitcher Chelsea Baker, who will be featured in the May issue.
Taylor presented the check Wednesday to Mayor Dan Raulerson, who said the city will donate the cash to the Little League. Raulerson praised Chelsea, who gained nationwide fame after pitching two perfect games in less than a year.
Taylor, who has graced the covers of magazines such as Cosmopolitan, recited some of the accomplishments of the Turkey Creek Middle School eighth-grader, such as striking out 127 batters in 60 innings.
Chelsea, 13, will be featured in the magazine’s Best of America series, Taylor said.
Her feature is titled “The Best Pitcher in Little League may be a Girl.” The magazine should hit the stands in mid-April.
Taylor, 35, is visiting cities from coast to coast and helping deliver a total of $5 million in financial and promotional stimulus from Reader’s Digest to towns hit hard by the continued economic downturn.
“It’s been so much fun,” she said. “It’s been such a cool thing giving out money to towns that need it.”
