Alice in Chains: Mike Starr, Former Alice in Chains Bassist, Dead at 44
Wednesday March 9, 2011
MIKE Starr has died at the age of 44, TMZ reports.
The former Alice in Chains bassist’s body was found in a Salt Lake City home Monday; police were called to the house at 1:42PM. The cause of the musician’s death is still unknown.
Starr — who was born in Hawaii — was arrested in February for felony possession of a controlled substance. Police reports say he had six Xanax pills and six painkillers when he was arrested.
“It’s a terrible shock and tragedy,” his father says of his son’s March 8 passing.
In August 2009, Starr joined the cast of Celebrity Rehab, where he sought treatment for heroin addiction at the Pasadena Recovery Center in California.
“Devastating to hear of Mike Starr succumbing to his illness. So very sad,” Dr. Drew Pinsky tweeted Monday afternoon. “Our prayers are with his family.”
