James Durbin is the new American Idol frontrunner this season after his San Francisco audition that wowed the judges and millions of viewers.
His heartbreaking story of losing his father to a drug overdose at age 9 intrigued the judges but it was his amazing voice that made him one of the most memorable contestants of any season.
James opened up about the fact that he was diagnosed with tourette syndrome and aspergers syndrome shortly after his father’s death but it was his uplifting story about how he met his girlfriend and had a son that changed his life.
All of the judges gave James his ticket to Hollywood.
“You sing from where you need to sing from,” Jennifer Lopez told James at the end of his audition.
His memorable (and tearful) performance can be seen below:
Do you think James has what it takes to become the next American Idol?

His audition video hasn’t been released yet but when it does, I will upload it right away. Until then, check out this video of James performing The Beatles hit While My Guitar Sleeps. Personally, I think he did better in this performance than his one tonight – although both were great!
